Verify Hardware Requirements

Football Manager 2012 would crash if your system does not meet minimum requirements. Below are minimum system requirements for Football Manager 2012.

Operating System: Windows XP/ Windows Vista/ Windows 7
RAM: Should have 512 MB for Windows XP and 1GB for Windows Vista and Windows 7
CPU: 2 GHZ  Intel P4 for Windows Vista and Windows 7 while 1.4 or faster for Windows XP

Storage: Make sure you have 2GB  of available Disk Space.   

Delete Cache Files

To fix Football Manager 2012 crash you need to delete cache files, make sure hidden files are turned ON. To turn on hidden files and folder on your system, follow the steps given below. 

On Windows XP open My Computer  > Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders. 
On Windows Vista and Windows 7: Open My Computer > Organize > Folder and Search Options > View > Show hidden files and folder. 

To remove cache files, follow the instructions given below. 

1. Double click on My Computer. 
2. Select Documents and Settings | User | Application Data
3. Click on Sports Interactive | Football Manager 2012 | Cache
4. Delete this folder. 

If you are on Windows Vista or Windows 7, follow the steps given below. 

1. Close all active programs.
2. Click on Start | Username | AppData | Roaming | Sports Interactive | Football Manager 2012
3. Now remove Cache folder. 

Adjust Screen Resolution

Football Manager 2012 would crash when you launch it on lower resolution--below 1024 x 768. If you are playing game on small screen, follow the steps given below. 
1. Open Steam | Go to Game Library 
2. Right click on Game | Properties | Set Launch Options 
3. Input  “_small_screen-windowed” in the box | OK
4. Close the game. 

Verify Integrity of Game Cache

You may receive “a serious error was encountered” and game would close automatically. If you are getting such error, follow the instructions given below. 

1. Run Steam | Library | Football Manager 2012
2. Right click on Game | Properties  | Local Files
3. Click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Manage Background Running Services

Services running in background can cause Football Manager 2012 crash. You should manage background services, especially disable your antivirus program. Use Microsoft Configuration Utility to manage background services.

1. Open Start | Search 
2. Type MSCONFIG
3. Double click executable file 
4. Click on Services | Uncheck unwanted services
5. Restart your system. 

Add Files to Exceptions List

To prevent from Football Manager 2012 connection issues make sure your router is not running in DMZ mode or simply bypass your router. You should add “steaminstall.exe”, “hl.exe”, “steamTmp.exe”, “hl2.exe” and “steam.exe” to your exceptions list. 

If you are still facing problem, do the port forwarding. For TCP use 27020-27050, TCP 27015 and UDP 27000 to 27015- UDP 27015 to 27030

Game Crashes after pre-match Team Talk or when going to a match
If the crash dumps are happening when going into 3D match, see if this helps: 

- Go to Preferences screen
- Display & Sound tab
- untick 'show stadiums'
- hit Confirm

If this doesn't work, we suggest turning all of 3D off and running in 2D to see whether this works.
